Story FMR’s Treasurer, Paula Keyes, and I attended the London & South East Members’ Meeting of the Charity Finance Group on 11th January 2018, in the City of London.
The Charity Finance Group (CFG) is itself a charity and champions best practice in finance management in the voluntary sector. Active in the policy arena, education and training, CFG also provides information and support for members and the wider charity sector.
Three knowledgeable speakers gave a “round up” of the key events in the sector over the past year, covering accounting, audit, tax, regulation, best practice and reporting issues. It was an interactive session, and we took part, asking questions about the detail of VAT and its application in a charity context. Effective governance and the application of the new GDPR (data protection) rules were key topics for discussion.
Overall, we found the event extremely useful and interesting; and were especially pleased to note that in times of regulatory challenge, Story FMR was among the 25% of charities present who felt that 2017 had been a successful year!
